Short+Sweet Queensland (Strand 3)

My short plays Smart Jimmy, Slow Bob and Stargazers got their Queensland debut last weekend as part of Short+Sweet Queensland 2019.

Both plays were in Strand 3 of the competition which took place at the Brisbane Powerhouse on 19-22 June.

Smart Jimmy, Slow Bob was directed by Arryn Cox and starred Jesse Blachut, Anna Conomos and Bella Rose.

Stargazers was directed by Jaron Phillips and starred Freya Hoareau, Tadgh Parker and Darrel Plumridge.

Neither plays made it to the gala final, but my Mum did get to go and see them — so that’s a win in my book!

My short play The Hold Up will be in Strand 4 of the comp, which is happening on 25-27 July at The Space, HOTA (Gold Coast).

Short+Sweet Canberra, 4-15 August @ Courtyard Theatre

I was delighted to find out that my short play The Truth About Mum and Dad won the Judge’s Choice award at Short+Sweet Brisbane Week 1 a few weeks ago. The play has now qualified for the Short+Sweet Queensland Gala Final on Friday 28 August at the Powerhouse Theatre.

Big congrats to director Shae Riches and his cast for putting on such a great show. I know they worked hard to get the play primed for a stellar performance. If you’re in Brisbane on the 28 August be sure to check it out. Tickets are on sale through the Powerhouse Theatre.

Another rendition of The Truth About Mum and Dad is also about to kick off in week one of Short+Sweet Canberra from August 4 – 7 at the Courtyard Theatre. As always, Short+Sweet Canberra is brimming with local theatre talent. If you’re in Canberra and want a good excuse to get out of the cold, check it out! Tickets are on sale now through Canberra Theatre.

The Truth About Mum and Dad at Short+Sweet Brisbane

After being longlisted for this year’s Pint Sized Play Competition in the UK, my short play The Truth about Mum and Dad will be popping up in a few Aussie-based festivals in the next couple of months.

First it will be seen at Short+Sweet Brisbane from July 9 – 11 at the Brisbane Powerhouse. It will be directed by Shae Riches and will feature Ben Knapton as Jason and Samantha Sherrin as Rachael. Check out the awesome poster!

About a month later it will be performed as part of Short+Sweet Canberra on August 4 – 7 at the Courtyard Theatre. This rendition will be directed by Greg Gould and will feature Brendan Kelly as Jason and Jess Waterhouse as Rachael.

Here’s the play’s synopsis:

Rachael is shocked to find her father’s car parked outside a brothel. But when she calls her brother Jason for support, she discovers there is a lot more to mum and dad’s sex life than she ever wanted to know.

If you’re in Canberra or Brisbane, be sure to check it out!
